Understanding Liver Disease
Liver disease encompasses a range of conditions that impair liver function, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hepatitis, cirrhosis, and autoimmune liver disorders. Liver fibrosis occurs when repeated injury triggers excessive deposition of collagen and scar tissue, replacing functional liver cells (hepatocytes). While liver transplantation remains the definitive treatment for end-stage liver disease, donor organ shortages and surgical risks limit this option.
